Comet Ponce-Brooks had its tail ripped off by a solar ejection.

An unusual structure near the comet’s nucleus can be seen in the photo – it is its tail, which broke off due to a powerful solar wind shock wave.

One of the first recorded examples of such a phenomenon occurred in April 2007, when NASA’s STEREO-A spacecraft observed how a coronal mass ejection ripped off the tail of Comet Encke.
